Why we get inspired…..

I woke  up this morning in a haze trying to remember the dreams of last  night and the obligations of today…..My mind thought…now what was  “Today?”  What do I need to  manage the in the  “Today” of my life?

The answer quickly echoed through my head.  Today, See Me Beautiful was scheduled to host two workshops at a local event called “I am Woman, I am Unique”.   This event included local girls from ages 9-14 and their moms.  Our mission is clear…improve self esteem…doesn’t matter if you are one, eleven, or one hundred and eleven we all struggle with this subject.  Whether we are being picked-on in school, losing our best friend, losing our single days, or just simply moving into a different stage of our life and things are starting to sag, 🙂 we all want to feel good about ourselves.

So today, my daughters and the Chair Chick of the Executive Board (Carol Seeber) and me were ready to do the workshops.  Not really understanding what might possibly happen.  It was a 45 minute workshop with a lot to cover on the topic of self-esteem and little time.  We were all nervous.  So what happened ?

The girls listened, talked, watched videos, talked some more, and the power of sharing was clear in the room.   They were so open and honest.  They shared times when they got made fun of, the labels that people put on them, and how they struggled.  They shared stories of strength and support, they turned to other girls they didn’t even know and offered to help.  It was what the human spirit is made of….love.   And, guess what we came to?  We ALL have these negative thoughts…no matter the age, size, shape, color, where you come from or fill in the blank________. It makes no difference.  We all struggle.   And the girls today heard it, took it in and were courageous in speaking their truths.  They get it and so do you .

One of the most moving moments for me occurred at the end of the event. A young girl of about 11, who during the workshop had revealed that she was frequently teased because of her “squeeky voice, approached me and said, “Thank you for telling me I’m beautiful.” It was hard to fight back the tears. That simple statement validated, more than anything, what See Me Beautiful is all about. And why what we are doing is so important.

Remember, you are good enough. Though our world may create images about size, color, appearance, or any stereotypes, we are not made pay attention to it .   Listen to the small voice inside that tells you how special you are.  Celebrate who are you are and all that you are meant to be.

You are all beautiful. We are all on this journey together, and when we discover who we are, we are more able to live fully into who we are supposed to be.

Labels

Thought for the day … labels. Why do we label everthing? We label things, people, and places.  We label friends such as best friends, or the prettiest girl, or the smartest kid. But what do these labels bring us?

In the end these labels make someone not pretty enough or smart enough.

Make your conversation today about who you are, not about the stuff you compare yourself to. The real question is how much do you see your true self, not the illusion to which you are comparing yourself.

You are created to be who you are…celebrate that…celebrate yourself!
